Abstract

The increasing complexity of the tourism industry requires vocational education graduates to possess not only technical competencies but also strong communication skills as essential professional competencies. In the Ecotourism Study Program, communication competence plays a strategic role in supporting tourism services, environmental interpretation, cross-cultural interaction, destination promotion, and collaboration with local communities and stakeholders. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Basic Communication Course to strengthening the communication competence of Ecotourism students through a literature study approach. This study employed an integrative literature review using content analysis to synthesize findings from scholarly journals, books, and relevant academic publications on vocational education, communication studies, employability, and ecotourism. The findings indicate that the Basic Communication Course contributes to the development of interpersonal communication, public speaking, cross-cultural communication, digital communication, hospitality communication, and professional collaboration skills. These competencies form an essential foundation for improving graduates' employability and readiness to meet the demands of the sustainable tourism industry. This study concludes that the Basic Communication Course should be positioned as a strategic component of the vocational curriculum to strengthen students' communication competence and support the development of adaptive, professional, and competitive ecotourism graduates.
